NFC stands for Near Field Communication. This technology allows a contactless communication between two devices (e.g. mobile phones) as well as between a device and an NFC tag (e.g. RFID label). Depending on the design of tag and device, the communication range is only within a short distance.
The advantage of this new technology is that it enables a data transfer within a short distance. No extensive configuration is needed for establishing the link connection. Devices (e.g. mobile phones) are already available on the market disposing of the NFC technology. It is very versatile and can be used for various applications, such as VCard, e-Ticketing, Mobile Payment or diverse marketing actions.
Based on the multiple used 13,56 MHz RFID technology, a wide variety of shapes and forms of NFC tags is already in existence. Primarily in use is the NFC label e.g. as application on posters and placards or similar products. But also cards are often used for instance as VC card application, or to build a direct connection to an online profile. Further designs are key fobs, wristband tags, disc-tags or on-metal-tags.
